Yulia AquaName:  Yuliia (Yulia) Lykholai
RECC History: I started working at the RECC as a AquaFit instructor last Summer after completing the Futures In Fitness Program they offered.  I really enjoy being part of this community and helping people stay active.
Why did you become a fitness instructor? I’ve always been interested in health, movement, and helping others feel better in their bodies. AquaFit is a great way to support people of all fitness levels in a safe and enjoyable environment.
What’s your favorite pump-up song? I enjoy upbeat, feel-good music that keeps the energy high and makes people want to move especially fun classics and dance tracks that everyone can enjoy.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey? Start small, stay consistent, and listen to your body. Progress takes time, but
every step counts.

If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete, who would it be and why? Richard Gormley he is one of the best in AquaFit, and I would love to learn from his experience and energy.

Deb BarnhillName:
Deb Barnhill
RECC History:
I first became a RECC member when the facility opened in 2013. Over the years, I have enjoyed group fitness, personal training, weight training and masters swimming, until settling into Aquafit as my main activity.
Why did you become a fitness instructor?
When I retired from my career as a pharmacist, I began attending Aquafit classes almost everyday. When the instructor training course was announced, the timing was perfect to try something new. I took the training to learn more about aquatic fitness and without any intention to teach regularly, but I fell in love with it!
What’s your favorite pump-up song?
Groove is in the Heart, by Deee-Lite. It was released the summer I graduated from high school, and it always gets me going.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?
Ditch the all-or-nothing thinking. Missing a workout can’t derail an entire week, and taking a vacation won't ruin months of healthy habits. Keep the big picture in view, and extend yourself some grace when life gets in the way.
If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete, who would it be and why?
Taylor Swift, though I’d never keep up! When I learned about her training regimen for the Eras tour, I was so impressed with how purposefully her training was designed. She wasn't chasing an aesthetic; she did absolute monster workouts directly targeted to her goal of safely performing her 3+ hour show, night after night. That kind of focus and work ethic inspires me to no end.

Ingrid AquaName: Ingrid Gaban
RECC History: I was part of the Future in Fitness program, where I earned my Aqua, Weight Training, and Personal Training certifications. In July 2025, I started leading aqua classes, and over time began covering classes in the fitness center as well. As I grew, I built my own PT client base, and now with the Spring 2026 schedule, I’m leading a full variety of classes across different formats.
Why did you become a fitness instructor?  As a mom, I understand how hard it is to put yourself first. I became a fitness instructor because I want to help people feel strong, confident, and capable in their everyday lives — not just in the gym. Fitness changed how I see myself, and I want others to experience that same transformation.
What’s your favorite pump-up song? “Let’s Get Loud” — it brings energy, confidence, and that “just move your body and enjoy it” feeling every time.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?
Don’t wait to feel ready — just start. Keep it simple, stay consistent, and focus on progress, not perfection. The goal is to build habits that fit your real life.
If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete, who would it be and why?
Vin Diesel — a little bit for motivation, a little bit because I’m a fan! But mainly because he shows that fitness doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful. Strong, consistent, and still living real life — that’s the goal.

RECC History: I have been a member at the RATH since 2022, and have been teaching here for about a year now. The pool is my happy place, with its’ sunny windows and friendly atmosphere.
Why did you become a fitness instructor?  I became a fitness instructor 25 years ago after being in classes with terrific instructors, who gave me motivation, encouragement, corrections, suggestions, and made me feel welcomed. I tried out an Aquafit class as a participant and LOVED IT, so took the course to become an instructor.
What’s your favorite pump-up song? I love all music, but the 80’s tunes really gets me motivated!!!
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?
Start your fitness journey with a goal of finding something that you enjoy. Once you start looking forward to doing something physical, the rest falls into place. You start to feel healthier, stronger, happier, and you start to eat better and feel better. Then the momentum really builds. Start with a mindset of being kind to yourself and not expecting huge changes overnight. Find coaches, instructors and trainers who can figure out what will work for you.
If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete, who would it be and why?
I would have loved to spend a class with Richard Simmons (RIP)!!! He was a pioneer of teaching classes which incorporated fun, and happiness. He was non-threatening, and welcoming, and an icon in the fitness world.

Why did you become a fitness instructor? kind of fell into it. I was going to a local gym after recovering from back surgery, and they were offering the first Zumba classes east of Toronto. No one had ever really heard of it, but it sounded fun, so I gave it a go. Before long, I was attending so many classes that the owner asked if I would consider getting certified. She and I attended our B1 certification together shortly after. I have never looked back. After that, it just snowballed, and I now hold certifications in Aqua Zumba, Zumba Toning, Zumba for Kids, Strong Nation and Circl.
What’s your favourite pump-up song? That's a hard one! It changes by the day. Lately I'm grooving to Greyhound by Swedish House Mafia, but it really isn't well suited to Zumba. I like finding banging remixes of old 80's music and 70's funk. I may be dating myself here...lol.  I love the traditional Latin rhythms that form the basis of Zumba. Each one has its own unique style and flavor.
How do you stay motivated to work out on days you don’t feel like it? Truly, my participants motivate me. There are just no other folks on earth like Zumba folks. To see them make gains in their strength, balance and mobility is food for the soul.  The pure energy exchange in my classes is a phenomenon. After all, what could be better than starting the day dancing with your friends? It's mental health care wrapped up in a big sweaty bow.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?  Set reasonable goals. Find an exercise format that you can feel passionate about, and that you love to do. Find community in your exercise journey; having a tribe keeps you motivated, and accountable.
If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete, who would it be and why? I've never been a big sports fan; I don't have any 'idols' so to speak, but it would probably be a hoot to dance with Beto Perez, the founder of Zumba.

RECC History: Started January 2017
Why did you become a fitness instructor?  While working long hours on the computer, I developed neck pain. I started yoga to relieve the discomfort—and that’s when I discovered the charm of yoga.
What’s your favorite pump-up song? K-pop! :)
How do you stay motivated to work out on days you don’t feel like it?
I think about my members and how much I enjoy working out with them. That’s the reason I started teaching in the first place. Skipping a session isn’t an option when it’s my job! :)
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?
Keep showing up consistently, and pay attention to how your body is progressing and becoming more functional.
If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete, who would it be and why?
Wooseok Byeon from the TV show Lovely Runner—because he’s very good-looking and has an amazingly balanced figure! :)
My other job is teaching art and drawing, and I would love the chance to draw him in person one day.
